A new University of Victoria
program is the first in Canada to offer a master’s degree in Indigenous
Communities Counselling leading to provincial and national certification.
“The program will directly address
the urgent need for professional counsellors who are able to provide culturally
relevant counselling services to Indigenous individuals, families and
communities,” says Anne Marshall, an education professor who co-chaired the
initial advisory committee that led to the program, along with professor
emerita Dr. Lorna Williams. More information is available at:
The World's
Biggest Button Blanket is on display at the Legacy Gallery Downtown. It was created
over the fall 2013 academic term, in collaboration with students at UVic's
First Peoples House. The blanket invites new conversations about indigenous
button blanket makers and the artistic traditions that surround them. It is a
project of the Williams Legacy Chair in Modern and Contemporary Art of the
Pacific Northwest.

Gold for UVic in international sustainability rating system
UVic has achieved a gold rating in the Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & Rating System that colleges and universities use to measure their sustainability progress. The major reporting categories are academics, engagement, operations and planning and administration. The report reflects the progress UVic has made in a wide range of sustainability categories and also identifies areas where we can improve in the future, which will be helpful as part of the upcoming process to renew the Sustainability Action Plan. Cheap Trick
CHEAP TRICK may be one of the most covered bands of all time. Their timeless classics include "I Want You to Want Me," "Surrender," and "The Flame. With more than 5,000 performances, 20 million records sold, 29 movie soundtracks and 40 gold and platinum recording awards, the band was honored in October 2007 by the Chicago Chapter of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) for their contributions to the music industry.
